Starcrash

"But you're the only human-like friend I've ever had," said a Starcrash character, without emotion.

As a CTY Carlisle tradition, we watched Star Wars  Starcrash (what's the difference?). Basically, a broke man ripped off Star Wars eighteen months after it came out. Nearly the whole camp (332 to be exact) wasted 92 minutes of their lives at ATS (the auditorium used for dances and Starcrash) for this.

The movie was hilariously horrible. Luckily, Lesa had amusing commentary at the right spots. By the way, Lesa is the site director of CTY Carlisle. Prior to the movie screening, she explained how a student tradition like this forces her to screen such a ridiculous film every year.

During the movie, the actors' voices did not seem intense at all (intense- as in emotional and actor-like). Their emotions were somewhat unconvincing. The phrasing of the dialogues sounded weird, exemplified by the above quote. And then, there is this:

"It's so nice to be turned on again."

Yup, it sounds pervy, doesn't it? ATS was literally filled with loud laughter directly after a robot spoke the above quote. When the movie ended, Lesa held a question and answer session, during which one specific student raised his hand. Lesa already knew that he was going to ask when Starcrash 2 will be screened, so she answered him by saying that Starcrash 2 will never be screened at CTY Carlisle because it is CTY-I. After there were no more questions, David Hasselhoff videos were played (for reasons unknown to me), which somehow caused half of us to go down to the floor and dance and form a conga line. I really do not know why...

CTYers Swarm Walmart

Last week 257 CTYers went to Walmart. For thirty minutes we took over Walmart! It's a good thing that it didn't rain, otherwise we would've had to ALL go to the Kline Athletic Center (and do nothing).

So... time to mention our "productive" schedule...
In the morning we wake up and eat delicious breakfast any time between 7:30 and 8:45 AM. Sometimes there are morning runs before this time. Then we head to class, where we learn about, build, and destroy electronic components. One time we were learning about potentiometers aka pots, and we destroyed them (as smoke came out), thus came the birth of an inside joke: smoking pots (Yes, I know it's not that funny). Then we head to lunch, which is called "tater time," because the cafeteria serves potatoes or sweet potatoes almost all meals. Afterwards, the class goes back to class and builds or analyzes circuits before going to two interesting activities.
"Interesting activities" include John Freeman Cult (don't ask me how it started), Fandom Friday (for the fangirl/boy inside of us), and more listed below.

Then we go to dinner (MORE FOOD!!) and study hall. At study hall, we read from 2 textbooks and do hard problem sets (luckily we can "work together in groups"- aka my smart friends helping stupid me).

Look at these big boys Electrical Engineering B students have to read.

After two hours of study hall, we finally have Meet Market- one hour of meeting other CTYers. So far, most people have been kind, friendly, and outgoing. And this is the perfect time to be socially awkward and start forced conversations. No, just kidding. Well, another option is staying in the dorms. Then comes a brief hall meeting and lights out.

Lights out (n.) - the quality of being 100% quiet, still, and asleep after 10:30 P.M.
[origin: our R.A.]

Unfortunately, our hall's R.A. can detect even the smallest peep, so my friends usually get caught. Only twice have we made lights out. Sad, right?

CTY, You Have a Nice Butt

Whoo! So tired from the dance last Saturday, on Mod Sat (Moderate Saturday- the first Saturday of CTY).

The theme was neon, so almost everyone had glowsticks. When we all went to Walmart, we bought out all the glow sticks, of course. Some people swung them around in the art known in CTY Carlisle Jargon as raving. Non ravers formed a big circle around the talented ravers including the Rave King, for several songs. The rest of the dance was filled with dancing and sweating. Oh ya, they played "Pompeii" AND "Stay the Night!!!" Like ya, Zedd and Bastille's music is sooooooo good. Towards the end, they played 2 songs traditional to CTY Carlisle, "Stairway to Heaven," a slow dance song , and "American Pie." During "American Pie," we all formed a big circle and kicked our legs for some time, while the never mores (who cannot return to CTY due to age limits) and no mores (who will not come back for other reasons) formed their circle in the middle. Then we ran towards the center and shouted:
Die Die Die Die
Live Live Live Live
Sex Sex Sex Sex
And the cycle repeated until the end of the dance, where some people chanted (yes- they chanted, because it was full of tradition):
CTY, you have a nice butt. CTY, we love you. (X2)
Give us your souls. Give us your souls. (Take off your clothes. *Omitted because it was deemed CTY-I, or inappropriate)
Then some people made announcements about Passionfruit the next morning.

Passionfruit is a student run activity held at 7AM. I do not know why it is called Passionfruit, but the Emperor did have passion fruit juice for people to drink. Although it was early in the morning, it was truly fun. We made toasts to what we liked about CTY as we sat in a circle. After each toast, we sipped juice. We also played a few games, such as transferring a Lifesaver to a partner's coffee straw with one's own coffee straw.

Later in the afternoon was Sundae Funday Sunday. We ate ice cream sundaes and just chilled. Our "moderately" fun weekend culminated with study hall in the evening.

The day before, we swarmed a movie theater and watched movies. There were:  Hercules, Transformers, Planes 2, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Most people came, while other people just chilled at Mellow Quad.

Anyways, the day before Saturday was Casino Night. Instead of study hall, we played casino games with fake currency. Our whole hall combined fake CTY currency won from fake gambling to send our RA (room attendant) on a lunch date. It was really fun. Because of that, we started shouting:
"I say (RA name 1).
You say (other RA name 2).
(RA name 1)!
(other RA name 2)!
X3
Together forever!"
Basically, we started shipping our R.A.s, and this pair is officially my OTP (NOT Smillan, Dastiel, or whatever- take that, fandoms!). Anyways, the weekend was pretty fun overall.

Nerd Camp

Just arrived at Johns Hopkins University CTY camp in Pennsylvania!

I'm kinda excited and kinda not. I'm excited that I'll meet new people, sort of have a college dorm experience, and learn new topics, but I'm not excited to leave home, right after going back home from cross country camp. And I put off packing until the day to leave for camp (go procrastination!).

Anyways, it was hard to get any sleep on the red eye flight. I wondered how the passengers around me received any sleep at all. Btw Chicago O'Hare Airport was amazing aesthetically. The tunnel between concourses B and C were lit up with bright lights. I wish I took a pic. Oh well...

Then came the connecting flight. I saw a bunch of teenagers at the connecting gate (flying to MDT for CTY), so I concluded that many CTY people were there. This flight was SO much more comfortable than the first flight, because the connecting flight was in a tinier aircraft (Embraer 145 or something), not a Boeing 737.

Harrisburg Airport (MDT) appeared to be pretty nice, as well. MDT looked a little better than LAX. It looked somewhat like Charlotte Douglass Airport in North Carolina, in it's layout.

Well, now that I'm done ranting...
... I'm sooo pumped (idk- don't judge my word usage) for summer camp (it IS nerd camp, btw).

Tumblr is love, Tumblr is life.

Sorry for the lack of posts.

Recently, a friend introduced me to Tumblr (in case you're wondering, my tumblr is taiwangeek.tumblr.com ) , and, well... she got me hooked up. Like seriously. It's not even funny anymore. It's like an [addiction?– idk how to explain tumblr in one word: one word cannot encompass something similar to a way of life]

Therefore, I warn you to be careful around Tumblr- don't get addicted...
(Oh, what am I saying?) I mean: I encourage you 100% to become a geek/ nerd/ fanboy like I did. But beware of the side effects: losing your sleep, MAJOR PROCRASTINATION
